I specialize in written business communication, writing that is succinct, compelling, and clear. I believe that good business writing employs active-voice construction, uncomplicated syntax, and sentence variety that encourages the reader to stay with the text. EDITING
Most of the editing work I do falls into three levels of editing depth:
Level 1: Proofing
This service includes editing for mechanical consistency—spelling, capitalization, and punctuation; and language editing—correcting any indisputable errors in grammar, usage, and syntax. Typically, this service is done for copy that’s ready to be posted or published.
Level 2: Copyediting
This includes the mechanical and language components of level one, as well as revision for style—ensuring that the text be cogent and cohesive in voice, tone, and purpose. This is my most commonly provided service. My client provides a rough draft – I rework it into finished copy.
Level 3: Substantive editing and revision
This service includes the mechanical, language, and style components of levels one and two, but may also include reorganization, the recasting of content, and—for longer documents such as annual reports—correlation of parts (numeration of footnotes, endnotes, figures and tables; contents- and index-page numeration; and alphabetizing of bibliography and index).
All submissions, regardless of editing depth will be quoted at $50 an hour.
